Too Cool vs. Hardy Boyz
Too Cool made their way to the ring for their first defense of the Tag Team Championship. Their opponents were the Hardy Boyz, as Lita watched from backstage. The Hardy Boyz were about to get the win, but the referee's count was interrupted at two by Kane's entrance music. He made his way down to the ring carrying the Federation Title, which he stole from Triple H on RAW.
Kane Confronts HHH
After clearing the ring of the Hardys and Too Cool, Kane grabbed a microphone and called out the Game, saying that if Hunter wanted the championship back, he would have to come out and get it. Triple H then entered with his wife, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley. He told the Big Red Machine that the belt is Triple H's property and that Kane should do the right thing and give it back. In exchange for the title, Triple H offered Kane anything he wanted, except a title match. It was decided that if Kane beat Triple H in a non-title match later that evening, Kane would become the No. 1 contender. Kane then told the Game that he "might be that damn good, but I am that damn bad."
Undertaker Asks For Title Shot
Out back, Vince arrived in a limo along with the Road Dogg and X-Pac. As they went to get out of the car, the Undertaker made another attempt at running Mr. McMahon down on his motorcycle. The Phenom then told the trio that he wanted a title shot. Vince, fearful of the 'Taker's wrath, said that he would be the No. 1 contender for the title, as long as he defeated both the Dogg and X-Pac in a Handicap Match that night.
Edge & Christian Beg For Title Shots
The Game was disgusted with Vince's actions. Hunter told him that next time he should ask first. Meanwhile, Shane pulled in with Edge and Christian begging him for a Tag Title rematch. Shane told them if they defeated The Rock in a Handicap Match, then they could be the No. 1 contenders for the titles. But if The Rock won, he would be No.1 contender for the Federation Title. As Shane met up with the rest of the faction, they all just stared at him in disbelief.
Kurt Angle vs. Bradshaw
In a King of the Ring qualifying match, Kurt Angle promised that he would win the King of the Ring no matter who his opponent was. That opponent was the tough Texan Bradshaw. Angle got the win after an Olympic Slam.
Benoit vs. D'Lo
Chris Benoit then put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against D'Lo Brown. Benoit got the win, forcing D'Lo to tap out with a Crippler Crossface.
Arm Wrestling Match
The Kat vs. Terri

The Kat, dressed in SmackDown! blue, and Terri then made their way to the ring to settle their differences with an arm wrestling match. Jerry "The King" Lawler was guest referee for the match, which Terri won after spitting water into The Kat's face. Afterwards, The Kat hit Terri with a broncobuster. That prompted "The King" to stop The Kat and beg her to give him one, which she refused.
Undertaker vs. Road dogg & X-Pac
In the first match for the No. 1 contendership, the Undertaker took on Road Dogg and X-Pac, who were accompanied to the ring by Mr. McMahon. The degenerates almost got the win, but were distracted by the Dudley Boyz. Undertaker then took advantage and got the win with a chokeslam on X-Pac.
Y2J vs. Hardcore Holly
Hardcore Holly then challenged Chris Jericho, the man who cost him his Intercontinental Title Match on RAW. Chris Benoit interfered and smacked Hardcore Holly with a chair, and then Y2J hit Holly with a Lionsault for the win.
Rock vs. Edge & Christian
In the second match of the evening for No. 1 contendership, The Rock took on Edge and Christian. The Rock had the advantage at first, but then Shane hit him with a chair after distracting the referee. Edge made the cover but The Rock barely got his shoulder up at the two count. The Rock recovered and hit the People's Elbow on Edge and won the match to become the Federation's second No. 1 contender.
Crash vs. Albert
In the second King of the Ring qualifying match, Crash Holly took on Albert, who was accompanied to the ring by Trish Stratus. Crash got the win after reversing an Albert powerbomb into a sunset flip. After the match, Trish and Albert both attacked Crash.
HHH vs. Kane
In the back, Triple H berated both Vince and Shane, telling them that they both screwed up in making their matches. He also said that he wanted no help from anyone in the faction, as he would show them single-handedly how to take care of business. Before the referee could start the match between Triple H and Kane, the Big Red Machine made the ref leave the ring. Then, Earl Hebner made his return to officiate the match! A shocked Triple H had a difficult time concentrating on his match. Finally, the Game grabbed a chair and made his way toward the Big Red Machine. But before he could actually hit him with the chair, Hebner pulled it out of his hands. Kane threw Triple H down with a chokeslam and got the win and the No. 1 contendership! As SmackDown! went off the air, Kane once again held the Federation Title up over his head before laying it on the waist of the fallen Triple H.
